Be More Pirate - Re-Writing the Rule Book

  • Better Space 127 Farringdon Road London, England, EC1M 3HE United Kingdom (map)

Calling all Islington residents...

What if everything you thought you knew about pirates was wrong? In this event we'll dive into history to uncover some of the lessons that can be learned from the Golden Age of Piracy; taking the cartoonish buccaneers we know from pop culture, and reframing them as social revolutionaries and entrepreneurs who can teach 21st century businesses a thing or two.

The session will be led by Alex Barker, 'Captain' of Be More Pirate, which began life as a book by Sam Conniff and is now a global movement of individuals and organisations who are implementing pirate principles to change how they live and work by providing a new mindset and approach for effecting social change.

On their Be More Pirate podcast they’ve interviewed the likes of Laura Willoughby MBE, George the Poet and Sophie Walker on how they’ve challenged the status quo – and now Alex Barker is coming to Islington to see what Pirate crew already exists and who’s ready to join the movement.

You can expect to learn all about the Pirate approach, hear about examples of businesses and organisations who are challenging the status quo in their areas and meet other like minded people…or even future fellow crew members. There will also be opportunity to share your examples of where you are challenging and changing things.
